About & takedowns

Banned Bookshelf is an independent catalogue of books on banned, controversial, esoteric and hidden-knowledge subjects. We describe each book in neutral, factual terms and record its shelf status: whether it was removed by a retailer, withdrawn by its publisher, challenged in court, out of print, or freely available. A listing is not an endorsement. We host no copies of any book and link only to library catalogues, publishers and legitimate booksellers.

Affiliate links

Some book pages have buy buttons for Bookshop.org. These are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. A buy button is not an endorsement of the book. Library links to Open Library are not affiliate links.

Takedown requests

If you hold rights in something listed here and want a listing removed, email [email protected] with:

1. the page URL(s) you want removed;
2. the work or rights concerned;
3. your name, organisation (if any) and contact details;
4. a statement that you believe in good faith the listing is unauthorised and that the information in your request is accurate.

We remove the listing within 5 business days, usually sooner, and confirm by email. Banned Bookshelf hosts no files, so removing the listing is the complete remedy on our side.
